Getting Access to Birck

The Birck Nanotechnology Center, opened in 2005, is a 186,000 sq ft. shared use facility that includes a 25,000 sq. ft. ISO Class 3-4-5-6 (Class 1-10-100-1000) nanofabrication cleanroom – the Scifres Nanofabrication Laboratory. It is home to leading edge equipment for epitaxy, lithography, etching, processing and packaging and is maintained by 13 full-time engineering staff.

Characterization services provided by our research scientist team include electron microscopy, optical, surface, electrical and magnetic characterization in their specialized characterization labs.

Birck is home to over 300 residents including support staff, graduate researchers, and faculty from six academic colleges, and also hosts over 300 users from across campus as well as outside industries and universities.

Although most researchers choose to get trained and use the equipment themselves, our staff and scientists are also available to provide processing or measurement services. Please inquire with Ron Reger (rreger@purdue.edu) for more information.
