Research Impact

Research activities focus on nano-plasmonics that addresses two problems of modern nanophotonics: confining and guiding light along nano-waveguides and achieving field enhancements in nano-scale volumes. We aim at developing miniaturized photonic circuitry based on different types of plasmonic waveguides and new types of nanodevices for controlling optical processes at the subwavelength scale using state-of-the-art fabrication facilities for nanostructuring of metal-dielectric surfaces. Artificially designed materials with optical properties above and beyond those found in nature combined with innovative ideas of transformation optics allow unprecedented control over the flow of light at both the nano- and macroscopic length scales opening up possibilities for family of novel devices. Target applications of nano-plasmonic devices and optical metamaterials range from nanoscale waveguides and light focusing to subwavelength optical imaging, remote molecular sensing and manipulation in a lab-on-a-chip environment, nanolithography and photovoltaic.
